Some of Our Featured Artists Include:
Manuel Martinez of La Puebela starting
carving about 5 years ago. He has progressed from carving
small birds and animals to becoming a well known santaro who
carves bultos and
santos. He has won several awards for his carvings, using
mostly cottonwood for his saints. The Ben
Ortega family from Tesuque, NM are the most well known and famous
wood carvers from the state. Ben Ortega passed away in
the mid 90's. We have 2 of his pieces from the 1970's
that are museum quality, plus work by his children, Mike,
Louise and Mike Ortega Jr. They Ortega Family carves on
cottonwood, aspen and driftwood. An
Ortega Angel.
Francis Naranjo Salazar is a nationally
recognized potter from New Mexico's Santa Clara Pueblo. This
62-year-old has been making pottery since she was 3 years
and is famous for her rendition of the friendship basket. She
has received numerous awards at prestigious Indian art
shows.
John Tollardo, a native of Taos has been
carving since 1980. He uses beautiful cedar from the Taos
mountains. A piece of wood comes to life with his wood
chisels and mallet. John has carvings around the US, Europe
and Canada.
Tony Sandoval, a native American Indian from Cuba,
NM is a self- taught oil painting, sketch and pencil artist. He
shows in galleries throughout the US. His work portrays his
heritage, culture, wildlife of New Mexico an portraits of
his relatives.
